4,000 STUDENTS BECOME ALUMNI AT COMMENCEMENT 2002
The Class of 2002 celebrated its graduation this weekend with a series of events, including Commencement on the Ellipse on Sunday. Nearly 4,000 graduates heard from Brown University President Ruth Simmons and four other honorary degree recipients.

GW WINS CAMPUS PLAN DISPUTE
A federal judge sided with GW in its ongoing dispute with the District of Columbia over plans for expansion in the coming decade. Previous burdens imposed on GW have been lifted, and plans are underway for several new buildings.

FORMER SENATOR GEORGE MITCHELL TO KEYNOTE LAW COMMENCEMENT
The GW Law School will celebrate its commencement ceremony on Sunday, May 26th. Former Senator George Mitchell, architect of peace plans in Northern Ireland and the Middle East, will make the keynote address.

THREE GW STUDENTS RECEIVE JACK KENT COOKE SCHOLARSHIPS
The Jack Kent Cooke Foundation, founded by the estate of the late Washington Redskins owner, announced its first class of Jack Kent Cooke Scholarship winners. Three GW students were among the group of 50 recipients.

GW SENIORS LEAVE A UNIQUE LEGACY WITH CLASS GIFT
The Class of 2002 left a unique mark on GW with its Senior Class Gift - a mosaic of pictures which compose an image of George Washington. The mosaic will hang in the newly-renovated entrance to the Marvin Center.

NINE DC HIGH SCHOOL SENIORS RECEIVE TRACHTENBERG SCHOLARSHIPS
The 2002 Stephen Joel Trachtenberg Scholarships were presented to nine District of Columbia high school seniors this spring. Each SJT Scholar received a full scholarship for four years of study at GW, valued at $155,000 each.

SIX ALUMNI RECEIVE DISTINGUISHED ALUMNI ACHIEVEMENT AWARD
The GW Alumni Association recognized the professional accomplishments of six alumni with the Distinguished Alumni Achievement Award. The awards were presented at a black-tie dinner at Union Station, and honorees were recognized during Commencement on the Ellipse.

"DISTINGUISHED ALUMNI SCHOLAR" AWARD PRESENTED TO TWO GRADUATES
Charles C. Nguyen, two-time graduate of SEAS and dean of the School of Engineering at Catholic University; and S. David Young, a 1977 SBPM graduate and professor at INSEAD, received the GW Distinguished Alumni Scholar Award. Both recipients were honored for their scholarship at a luncheon on April 29th.

COURSE AUDIT PROGRAM BEGINS FOR SUMMER SEMESTER
Registration has started for the Summer 2002 Alumni Course Audit Program. Classes began on Wednesday, May 22nd, and will continue throughout the summer. Visit the Alumni House web site to learn more about the program, view available courses, and fill out your registration form. Registration will continue through August.

GW YOUNG ALUMNI TO HOST GOLF OUTING, JUNE 2ND
GW's Young Alumni Council is sponsoring its 5th annual Golf Outing on Saturday, June 2nd at Potomac Ridge in Waldorf, MD. The tournament is a 2-man scramble format; tee times begin at 9:36 a.m. All GW alumni and guests are invited, and novices are welcome. GWAA ANNUAL MEETING SCHEDULED FOR JUNE 5TH
All GW alumni are invited to attend the annual meeting of The George Washington Alumni Association. Take this opportunity to meet current and new GWAA leaders, and vote for officers of the Association for 2002-03. The meeting will be held at Alumni House (1925 F Street, NW), beginning at 6:30 p.m. A brief cocktail reception will begin at 6:00. BASEBALL TEAM TO MEET RICHMOND IN ATLANTIC-10 CONFERENCE FINAL
The Men's Baseball team defeated St. Bonaventure on May 19th to advance to the final round of the Verizon Atlantic-10 Conference Baseball Championship. The Colonials will face Richmond in the championship game this weekend.

GW FRISBEE TEAM REACHES NATIONAL FINALS
GW's 5-year-old Men's Ultimate Frisbee team qualified for the national champtionships with their 2nd-place finish at a regional tournament in Princeton, NJ last month. The "Hungry Hungry Hippos" will compete in Spokane, WA this weekend, and are seeded 14th in the tournament.
