GW APPOINTS NEW DIRECTOR FOR CRISIS AND EMERGENCY PLANNING
John Petrie, former commander of the Norfolk Naval Station, has been appointed assistant vice president for public safety and emergency management. This new position, created in the wake of Sept. 11, makes GW a leader among universities in emergency preparedness.

GW's Loudoun County campus marked its first decade in 2001. The facility has seen dramatic growth in recent years spurred by partnerships with innovative local companies and government agencies.

NEW HEALTH & WELLNESS CENTER NAMED IN HONOR OF LERNER FAMILY
GW has named its newly-opened Health & Wellness Center to recognize a recent $5 million gift from the Annette and Theodore Lerner family. Theodore Lerner, a Washington-area real estate developer, is a graduate of GW's Columbian College and Law School.

COLONIALS RECOVER FROM DAYTON LOSS TO HOLD OFF LA SALLE, 75-72
The GW Men's Basketball team redeemed its 83-59 loss to Dayton by edging out La Salle on Sunday. The Colonials will face Atlantic 10 rival Xavier on Thursday, January 17.
