Dear Alumni and Friends,
Welcome to the GW Development and Alumni Relations website. The site is a tribute to the extended GW community, without whose support the University would not be the dynamic, thriving institution it is today. Support vital to our mission comes from the many wonderful gifts we receive. In fiscal year 2006, some 18,000 individuals contributed funds totaling nearly $70 million.
These gifts attest to and assist with our steady progress into the first tier of institutions of higher education. Every gift, no matter what its size, is important. In this message, I want to mention just a few milestones:
-In February 2006, the GW School of Business moved to its new home in Duquès Hall, a $56-million complex that includes wireless classrooms, an auditorium, a career center, and a financial markets room. The building is named for Ric Duquès, BBA ’65, MBA ’69, and his wife, Dawn, BA ’68, whose generous support transformed the new building from dream to reality.
-The Jacob Burns Foundation began a new chapter in its ongoing relationship with the Law School, endowing a faculty chair for the Jacob Burns Legal Clinics. The gift places GW Law among a select group of law schools in the nation that support its commitment to clinical legal education with an endowed chair.
-The building fund for the School of Engineering and Applied Science received generous gifts from Mark Hughes, BA ’69, MSE ’77, and Asghar Mostafa, BS ’81, MS ’82. The gifts will kick-start GW’s newest building initiative.
-GW’s annual fund had its best year ever, increasing revenue by 22 percent and participation by 17 percent in just 12 months.
We continue to increase our fundraising goals and you, our donors, continue to rise to the challenge. Membership in our top giving societies – the 1821 Benefactors and The George Washington Society – is growing and we are involving students in our culture of philanthropy: as its gift to GW, the class of 2006 established a fund to support community service programs on campus.
GW deeply appreciates each of our many supporters. Please accept my personal thanks for your generosity.
